Charitable projects & joyful experiences
The Youth Group provides Orthodox experiences to the young people of our parish ages 10-18 through fellowship, charity and education. Currently there are between five and nine members.
At least one educational function is held annually. Other projects include charitable undertakings within the community or outside of the parish. Some of the projects the youth group has taken on include purchasing and decorating the church’s Christmas tree, tomb watch on Great Friday, and taking responsibility for Pretzel making for the Bake Sale. Many fun projects turn into charitable events and vice versa. As a result, the group members become closer to each other, the parish and serve others. Participation in activities is determined by the age appropriateness of each activity.
The group does not operate with a budget. Parents will often donate supplies or the youth will carry out fundraisers for particular events in which they wish to participate. The group has found that by being self-supporting, they are actually acting in a responsible manner and not relying on others.
There are approximately 10 parent volunteers who assist in activities and act as chaperones. The Chair comments that the bottom line is that the group “has fun!”.
