It is the reading that inspires
and drives much of what can be learned.
St. Stephen’s Study Group came into being as a study unit to help expand the knowledge base for parish leaders. Modeled on a late vocations format, the learner explores major aspects of the Faith: history, sacraments, fathers, theologies, etc. to enable them to make decisions and lead within their own sphere of interest in an enlightened fashion.
The group desires to expand the knowledge base of Orthodoxy in the community; provide perhaps the most intensive educational opportunities for those who seek to grow in the faith; and to equip parish leaders with a background that will enable them to make responsible and immanently Orthodox decisions.
Participants benefit from this group by making the study effort; as an extension, the parish benefits as these people step into or further expand their leadership base. The group meets monthly for nine months of the year on the last Saturday of the month for a two to two-and-a-half hour period. Participants are responsible for purchasing their own materials.
This is one of the longest running educational programs offered at St. Gregory’s. Even though the schedule is often interrupted and disconnected on occasion, the discussions are animated, most often well-grounded in materials learned, and frequently tied to the worship of the Church. Some may choose to opt for the discussions only, but it is the reading that inspires and drives much of what can be learned.
